On the ninth day of Christmas

…my CertTESOL gave to me…

Dani is our course director and head of TESOL. She’ll be the person you talk to about any issues you’re having around deadlines or any other doubts about the course.

Simon is a course tutor, director of the TYLE Course and careers officer.  Here at Active Language, we offer a lifelong careers service so whilst you’ll chat to Simon during the course about your options and how to make your CV stand out, remember that you can contact us at any point in the future for careers advice. Follow our Facebook page where we post job adverts as well.

Kate is one of our tutors, both on the CertTESOL and TYLE course.  She is also one of our Materials tutors – we’ll talk more about this unit tomorrow.

T is a course tutor on the CertTESOL and TYLE and is also TESOL Course Administrator so you’ll probably be in touch with her quite regularly in the build-up to the course.

Chris and Ceri are also course tutors and both of them tutor the Unknown Language unit.  This is the fifth assessed unit of the course and comprises an assignment focussing on the experience of being in a second-language environment.  At the start of the course, you’ll spend four hours learning a foreign language and following each lesson will look at aspects of classroom management which aided you in the language learning experience. The assignment asks you to analyse the different teaching methods used and consider your experience as a language learner in a classroom where L1 is not used by the teacher.  The Communicative Approach, which we follow both as a course provider and language academy, encourages as much L2 to be spoken in the classroom as possible and, as a teaching qualification which will enable you to teach anywhere in the world, it’s important as a teacher to have the skills to communicate and teach withot using your learners’ L1.

Our administrative team – Olga, Mariu and Montse – will likely become familiar faces during the course.  They organise the teaching practice classes and do a lot of the pre-course preparation as well as meeting you at your accommodation if you choose to have us organise it. As they’re based in the reception area of the school, give them a friendly wave or a smile as you move about from one classroom to another!
