Why Trinity?

What is Trinity?

Trinity College, London is an examining board, which besides offering qualifications in language and language teaching, also offers qualifications in drama and music.

The Trinity College CertTESOL was first introduced around 30 years ago. This qualification is fully recognised by the British Council and is one of only two TEFL qualifications that is listed by the British Council as an acceptable introductory teaching qualification that meets their standards and requirements. Many employers and some countries will insist on a certificate like this one to employ you as an EFL teacher.

What is Trinity's role in the Active Language course?
Trinity is the body that validates our course and issues the CertTesol qualification to teachers.

Any Trinity-validated course works within guidelines issued by Trinity with regards to course content, teaching and assignment assessment and support given to trainee teachers.

"The Trinity validation guarantees quality and a comprehensive introduction into the world of English teaching. A Trinity qualification provides the credibility that employers require and the recognition teachers need when looking for work. It also reflects the dedication and professionalism you have shown by taking this first step in your teacher development"

Trinity also participates in the assessment of candidates in the form of moderation which takes place in the final week of the course.

Moderation

At the end of each course a Moderator from Trinity visits the centre. He or she samples the work produced by candidates and in an individual interview with each candidate assesses one of the course projects (the Materials Assignment). The moderator also talks to candidates in small groups and to the Course Director to get feedback on the course and to ensure it is being run to Trinity standards.

Why Trinity and not CELTA?

The Cambridge CELTA qualification is very similar in terms of course structure and content. Trinity-validated centres have more flexibility to interpret and adapt the course within the framework provided, and therefore to better meet the needs of their client base as well as those of the local employment market. Trinity also places a strong emphasis on teaching communicative English which is something that we very much favour.

Course assignments are also very practical in their nature which we see as a strength in a pre-service training course. Additionally, and importantly, the course includes reference to teaching children, something which many of our teachers go on to do, in particular those who remain in Andalucia.

The only TEFL centre to offer full and part-time TESOL courses

The tutors were fantastic – professional and approachable, experienced and fun and obviously love what they do.
Nadia Bouhdili

Really enjoyed the structure of the course – learn in the morning, teach in the afternoon and felt the workload and expectations were both appropriate. The course was said to be intensive but it wasn’t pointlessly so.

I thoroughly enjoyed the input sessions and feel like I got some really good tips. Even when it came to grammar which I am familiar with I still got much from seeing Dani teach. Good luck with the next group!
