Learn Spanish in CadizSPANISH COURSES IN CADIZ (In association with Centro Melkart) Why not make the most of your time in Cadiz by combining your Trinity TESOL Certificate and/or Teaching Younger Learners Extension course with some Spanish classes? Whether you are a complete beginner or an advanced learner wanting to perfect your Spanish or, indeed, anywhere in between, then we have the course for you.
Do I need to be able to speak Spanish to teach English in Spain?
The answer is “no”. The TESOL course and its methodology will prepare you to teach adults anywhere in the world without needing to know the language of that country.
Having said that, the benefits are perhaps obvious; having a reasonable grasp of Spanish will help you settle into the country, help you make friends and help you understand the needs of your students. Also, employers are understandably keen to employ teachers who can speak Spanish, at least to some extent. So, having some Spanish is a huge benefit both socially and professionally.
Will learning Spanish help me as a teacher?
It is always good for teachers to be actively involved in learning at any level. It helps us understand and empathise with our students.
From the point of view of the TESOL course, being a Spanish student will give you invaluable insights into both teaching & learning. This is a wonderful opportunity for your own teaching as you will observe experienced teachers in action. Our partner Spanish school here in Cádiz, who run the courses, have been teaching Spanish since 1995. If you choose to study Spanish before the TESOL course, it will help to make your teaching practice during the TESOL course less intimidating and even more meaningful. If you prefer to take the Spanish classes after the TESOL course, you will be able to approach the classes critically, with a deeper understanding of the processes and so get more out of the learning experience.
What does the Spanish course consist of? Small class sizes; a maximum of seven students to maximise your learning efficiency. Classes given by qualified, experienced Spanish teachers in a dedicated, enthusiastic and passionate atmosphere.
What if I need accommodation? Flat shared with other students Flats shared with other students from the school are found within the historical old town, within easy walking distance of the school. All the shared flats have 2, 3 or 4 bedrooms and come with the following amenities:
Flat shared with Spaniards The flats shared with Spaniards include the same amenities as those shared with other students, the only difference being that you share with native Spanish speakers. Living with a Spanish family This is a great way of progressing rapidly in Spanish; to practice what you have learnt in real social situations. The families are informed of the level of Spanish the student has. They are asked to use gestures or to point out objects they name when necessary and are conscious of the need for the student to feel comfortable and happy in their learning environment. The student will learn to understand the way of life and customs of Spanish families as well as developing linguistic skills. The student should try to integrate him or herself in order to benefit fully from this experience. The price is on a half-board basis which includes lodging, breakfast, dinner and laundry service.
